The journey

Sunday 9th March

Our day began at 6am, which was tough for a family of non-morning people. Excitement reigned however as this was the day we were taking off on our "once in a lifetime" holiday that we had been planning for a year.

Our Maxi Taxi arrived 10 minutes late, but our driver was great and got us to the airport in record time. We checked in and were given the exact seats we had wanted (pays to get in early!) and the very nice Qantas check-in lady even gave everyone complimentary passes for the club lounge, so we were able to wait in luxury! Everything was getting off to a great start!

We boarded the plane and had a very uneventful take-off, which is the way I like it! Then it took a change for the worse. The plane was at capacity and the only three TV screens that weren't working were the ones that Gav, Ash and I had! Gav was devastated as he was so excited about being able to watch movies for 14 hours straight! The staff tried to restart our screens but to no avail. Tempers were slightly strained however Gav and I did try to maintain a good humour.

Half way into the flight the attendants shut down the entire entertainment system. When it came back on about half an hour later, our screens were working!! There was much rejoicing! The Qantas staff were fantastic and gave us cheese platters, gift certificates and club lounge passes to try to make up for the inconvenience. The staff were awesome and to my mind are what makes me keep coming back to Qantas!
